- Introduction
Employee motivation is considered as a powerful model within an organization, herein, what is employee motivation and how is it achieved? Gignac and Palmer (2011) highlighted that employee motivation is an intrinsic enthusiasm which helps in accomplishing activities related to work. Motivation is a powerful tool which reinforces behavior and triggers the tendency to continue. As such, motivation is considered as an internal drive to satisfy an unsatisfied need to achieve an objective, thereby causing employees to take a particular action in regards to their objective (Islam and Ismail 2008). According to Flynn (2011), employee motivation has a direct impact on the organizational performance, as such; there are numerous ways to enhance the motivation of employees. Flynn (2011) pointed out that appreciation, recognition, job security, increased responsibility, good wages, and good working conditions, being part of a team and feeling involved in the work process increases employee motivation. In line with Amar (2004) there are different theories of motivation, whereby the relevancy to the workplace and the implementation of the theories to ensure motivated employees are analyzed. The most imperative theories to employee motivation include Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, Herzberg’s two-factor theory, Aristotle’s seven causes and the various types of motivation. Herein, a study on motivation on how to get the employees of ABH[1] moving is performed.

At the same time the hospital places a lot of importance on the traditional values of hospitality and compassionate patient care. The primary concernof the hospital is the health of the patients and that they are given the best possible care once they enter the portals of the hospital. ABH has also designed the total safety program since the safety of the patients is of utmost importance. The hospital provides 24-hour security, closed circuit television in all public areas and an in-room safe to lock up the personal belongings of the patients. Similarly, ABH offers a choice of patient rooms, all air conditioned whereby all patient beds are electronically operated with a remote control for maximum patient comfort and are provided with oxygen suction and compressed air supply. Besides, at ABH there are the latest medical technologies including the robotic assisted surgeries for the benefit of patients in the region. The services of ABH are divided into two categories namely, the inpatient service and the outpatient service. - Mission and vision statement
The vision and mission statement of ABH are provided by Dr Pratab Reddy the founder and chairman of Apollo Hospitals Groups, herein, the vision statement is “Our endeavor is to establish a state-of-the-art hospital with the highest standards of patient care and with wide-ranging facilities under one roof,” and the mission statement is “Our mission is to bring healthcare of international standards within the reach of every individual. We are committed to the achievement and maintenance of excellence in education, research and healthcare for the benefit of humanity.”
- Hierarchy of ABH
The employee hierarchy which ABH has is illustrated in Figure 3.0 whereby the top level of the hospital management is categorized into two parts namely the hospital administrators and specialists’ surgeons. The hospital administrators are a group of people who help ardently in carrying out the management of the hospital with a great ease and taking care of the profit and loss statements along with managing and handling the smooth administration of the hospital. The hospital administrators are the specialized professionals who are great at enforcing and mediating hospital ethics along with the knowledge and efficient to excel at what they do. The specialist surgeons are professionals who are an important part of the hospital management hierarchy. These are specialized surgeons with years of practice and vital experience whereby some of them after serving a hospital for several years with dedication also get promoted to the hospital administration level and become a part of the administrative team. Secondly, the middle level of the hospital management is considered as the executive level thereby including normal specialists specialized in a certain type of medicine, for instance, urologists, cardiologists and oncologists. Also, home doctors are the doctors from Mauritius itself. Nurses play a vital role in the hospital management hierarchy since all the assisting work of a doctor is handled by the nurses. Ultimately, the lower level of hospital management comprises of physicians, pharmacists and the billing department.

- Aims and Objectives of Research
- Problem statement
The very purpose of this particular research is to find out the different types of incentives, financial and non-financial and the various motivational factors which can contribute to the encouragement of the employees at ABH to work in a more efficient manner thereby increasing employee motivation and organizational performance. From the recent incidents which have taken place at ABH whereby 110 employees were removed from the hospital, the employees are much unmotivated to perform their tasks since job security is not provided to them.
