Next, Palmer (2014) went on to the inseparability factor. Inseparability of services also has its problems, especially if services cannot be separated from its means of production, for example, pure services like education, where the teacher is the pure service provider and executer. In marketing of services today, management to try to separate the production and consumption of their service or they would improve the exchanges during customer interaction and service delivery.
Then, variability of services, according to Palmer (2014), consists of the extent of its production routine and also the extent of customising the service in terms of its receiver. Service producers today are leaning towards reducing variability by applying more technology in their customer service experience. An example in the hotel industry is using machines to process the check-ins and check-outs of their guests.
Palmer (2014) then went on to perishability of services, one excellent example of a perishability is the airlines, when the flight takes off the empty seats are then lost and the airline is unable to recover that lost. Thus because of perishability of services, the management has critically set its demand and supply by using the “just-in-time” production of services.
Lastly, Palmer (2014) explained ownership in terms of service. The inability to own a service has unwanted effects like the inability to own the “title” to a service delivery method or the service experience provided to a customer. This has led the management to use direct distribution so as to own as much of the service as possible.
