For week three's CJI interactive activity I was able to gain better understanding about the justice process, crime elements, types of witnesses, bail system, pros and cons of plea bargaining, steps in the trial process, rights to trial, and jury deliberation. The criminal justice process is made up of 5 major stages, I was able to learn that not everyone that is convicted of a crime serves prison time. What I found the most interesting is that there are three elements that have to be presented to be labeled a crime which are criminal act, a guilty mind, and the concurrence. The legal defense includes alibi, justification, excuse, and procedural. Another interesting concept I learned was that there are two types of witness, when I just thought there was the victim and an individual who actually saw the crime be committed but these individuals are considered lay witnesses. The second type of witness is an expert this individual has specialized knowledge and skills, a few expert witness are psychiatrist, accountant, and physicians. With chapter 9 CJI interactive activity I was able to better understand and use information I learned about plea bargaining. I was able to than use the information in my week 3 individual assignment paper on plea bargaining. I learned that there are 4 basic steps to plea bargaining which are 1) negotiations between attorney 2) negotiations between defendants 3) approval 4) rejection. Just like any other issue the plea bargaining has both advantages and disadvantages to it.
