I wanted to choose a figure out of the Bible of someone I have actually heard of before. I decided to find out Mary of Magdala's, or Mary Mag'dalene's, story. Mary was a crucial figure in Jesus' time, not only as a leader but also as financial support. It was believed that Marys' body was taken over by evil spirits, however today it may be diagnosed as schizophrenia or epilepsy. In that time, people could not comprehend illness. Many believed the evil spirits had taken over and were controlling her body.
One day, Mary met Jesus, a teacher and worker who cured her of disease. Following that, Mary was a strong follower and believer of Jesus and his mission. It is whispered that Mary was actually the leader of the women following Jesus. These women traveled with Jesus and supported him financially as well. When Passover came, where Jesus would be crucified, Mary was one of the few people to stay with Jesus. Mary owed her life to Jesus, so she did not want to leave him on the cross alone. In that time, funerals didn't take care of the bodies, so Mary and some of the other women prepared his body for burial, which was obviously a very emotional task. Without having the proper spices, the women decided to finish the next day.
"Now after the sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Mag'dalene and the other Mary went to see the sepulchre.2 And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone, and sat upon it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow. 4 And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. 5 But the angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid; for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not here; for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. Lo, I have told you." 8 So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 And behold, Jesus met them and said, "Hail!" And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid; go and tell my brethren to go to Galilee, and there they will see me."" Matthew 28:1-10. Mary was the first to realize Jesus had been resurrected; hearing his voice when looking for his dead body. Mary was not alone in witnessing this, though people still did not believe their story.
During her life, Mary Mag'dalene experienced a strong appearance of the sacred. First, when Jesus cured her of seven evil spirits that seized her body, when she witnessed His resurrection, then when He rose from the tomb. In my eyes, Mary was prophetic because she believed him, and followed him. She witnessed first hand the glory of
