This is a good article that shows a good relation ship between a leader and follower. This article shows the new way of thinking and creating leaders. It shows that my simple following certain rules and guidelines any one can be a great follower and once you are a great follower it is not tough be a great leader. It also talks about the old ways where leaders and followers are thought to be different from each other. This does relate to trait theory when people believed that great leaders are born with certain traits and qualities. It shows how one can train them selves to be a great leader by just being a great follower. Article brings forth 11 basic ways to be great followers that also display the signs of leading.
1. Great followers seize the initiative: this explains the quality of not following the leader blindly by also taking the initiative in proposing solution to problem or towards a common goal.
2. Great followers create their Own Job: another good quality of a great follower is not to wait to be told or assign a role. By taking an active part and proposing the personal qualities and skills can help the team to perform better with less complications compared to where all the followers are assigned roles by a leader.
3. Great followers are coachable: By displaying the eagerness to learn, a follower will operate with much better and valuable asset in which a leader can invest. It is also a good quality of a leader where he or she uses its team members towards the betterment of the team instead of being a do-it-your-self leader.
4. Great Followers Anticipate: by anticipating what a leader will expect next from the follower will help to develop thinking like a leader. It will also help to have a better understanding between a leader and a follower.
5. Great followers are great communicators: communications is a key in the teamwork to achieve a common goal effectively. Holding back information might not be a good idea. Communicating in time before any problem arises is the key.
6. Great followers are goal driven: A great leader is always working constantly towards a common goal, but it will be much harder for him to do if the followers do not care or show interest in the goal. So in order to be a great leader and a follower one has to always keep in mind the goals and a plan to achieve those goals.
7. Great followers show don't tell: a gear follower should always be prepare for his roles and responsibilities. The leader doesn't have to tell him or remind the basics or what is expected from him.
8. Great followers earn trust: trust is another important trait for both leaders and followers. A has to earn the trust of the followers in order to lead them effectively. Followers also have to earn the trust of leader towards his role and responsibilities.
