Introduction
I am working as a Lean consultant team, for a leading consultancy. The consultancy has been commissioned to produce a briefing paper for the department of business innovation and skills (BIS) on how organisations can use resources more efficiently and carefully to be benefit their operations commercially and improve the Local, national and global environment. I will be looking at Dixie's fast food restaurant, efficiencies, and more importantly how they proposed efficiencies will impact on reducing their 'Carbon footprint'.
The assignment as a whole is a group assignment but for the first part it is an individual task and i been requested as a lean consultant to identify Dixie's mission, values and key objectives in terms of important economic and environmental issues. And also I will be identifying the economic and environmental needs of each of the mail stakeholders at Dixie's. I will have to conduct primary and secondary research and make some recommendations to improve its operations, and the local and global environments.
Each report when completed will be giving to the department of business innovation and skills to help push the campaign to raise awareness of the issues and provide low-cost solutions to more efficient, if not less usage, of the worlds natural resources, but ultimately improve business performance.
Task 1
Dixie's food was first established in 1986, Dixie chicken is one the fastest growing chicken restaurant chains in the UK with over 20 stores throughout the UK. Dixie's chicken is a fast food chain with a slight difference they specialise in Halal chicken. Dixie's chicken is highly involved in introducing the Halal meat concept in the fast food sector across the UK. Their aim at Dixie's is to constantly look to innovate and create mouth- watering combination that would delight and keep customers coming back to Dixie's chicken. Dixie's chicken pride themselves n their quality and choice, they offer fresh, carefully Halal chicken using unique blends of spices, bringing together the finest ingredients in order to cook up something for everyone.
Dixie's Chicken offers high quality food to customers and also makes it which I believe falls into the category of secondary and tertiary sector. Dixie's chicken is a private limited company and also a franchise. There are two shareholders within the company, Hassif who runs the finance part of the company and Mohammed who deals with the activities in Dixie's chicken. Dixie's mission is to become the world's leading brand in fast food, bringing great value to food lovers from all communities. In addition Dixie's like to provide superior service and quality to their customers, and offer excellent growth opportunities to franchisees and employees. Dixie's chicken value is to invest in people, technology and ethical business practices in order to ensure accelerated and organic growth with unparalleled commitment to quality, efficiency, customer service and the community.
Size of the business
Dixie's chicken has seven employees, two who work in the kitchen preparing food, three at the counter serving customers, one who is a customer service assistant who cleans and canters for the customers and another employee who does deliveries. Dixie's chicken annual turnover in the year 2011-2012 was £ 120,000.
Structure of management at Dixie's Chicken
The structure of Dixie's chicken is pretty much straight forward, all the staff report to the head manager of Dixie's for any requires. The head manager manages all the staff in the company and deals with most of the responsibilities in Dixie's chicken such as, accounting, cash handling, stock taking, stock handling, quality control, customers care, stock ordering and managing the staff. The rest of the employee's don't have much responsibilities especially the customer care assistant, due to the lack of understanding English and communicating with customers. There are just way too much responsibilities giving to the head manager and little control to do anything about it. In order to make the company more efficient, the head manager should employ someone to work with him or even promote one of the staff. The process for determining who gets the responsibilities of some of these roles will be established on who has the most skills, initiative and commitment to deal with such roles.
