Throughout the first acts of Shakespeare's Macbeth, the character Macbeth is portrayed as an honorable and strategic war hero who defends his king and country in battle. In Things Fall Apart, Okonkwo is a well respected member of the Umuofia clan. He is also a war hero and is known for his skills as a wrestler and warrior. Both characters are respected and looked up to but later on their flaws are shown. It is in their actions and decisions that they sadly end up in a downturn. Macbeth and Okonkwo are both tragic heroes who lay down their failure defeat.
In Act 1 of Macbeth, the weird sister confront Macbeth and his friend Banquo, telling him that he will soon be the Thane of Cawdor, Thane of Glamis and eventually King. At first Macbeth sees this as nonsense and pays no mind to the sisters for they are crazy but later on the Thane of Cawdor is caught and executed. King Duncan then pronounces Macbeth as the new Thane of Cawdor where Macbeth begins to think twice of what the weird sisters have told him. When Banquo discusses this with him, Macbeth replies and reassures him that he won't do anything make it happen, if it is meant to be for him to be king, he will become king.
