In both "The Allegory of the Cave" and "Matrix" the authors show that we are mostly blind to the world around us, but they come to the same conclusions about what the world looks like when they see it. The prisoners and the matrix are given false images and they accept what their senses are telling them, and they believe what they are experiencing is all that really exists. Neo and the slaves lived ordinary lives. For them, what they saw was the reality and anything that contradicted this reality was false.
"The prisoners in Plato's "Allegory of the Cave" are blinded because they are kept in a dark underground cave, chained by their necks and have a limited view of reality. . There is a fire lit in the entrance at the far end of the cave. There is a wall behind the slaves, which divides them and the puppet-handlers. The puppet handlers walk back and forth carrying artifacts include models of humans and animals while some talk and other don't. They can only see the shadows of the artifacts on the cave wall in front of them and would assume that they were real" "Plato".
In the movie "The Matrix", Neo (main character) was born into a world of illusions called the matrix. Initially, Neo lives within the Matrix; a machine produced world that creates every aspect of Neo's life and causes him to believe that he is actually living it. His true reality is being controlled by the puppet- handlers called the machines who use the human body as a source of energy.
Plato's philosopher asks us to imagine if one of the slaves were freed, and explained that his past life had no substance. How he would first be dazzled by the firelight, and then would only be able to see reflections of light before eventually be able to look upon the sun itself, although it would pain him "Plato".
In the movie, Neo, finds and alternate reality and he has to go on a journey to discover himself and what is around him. He has to transcend on the path of enlightenment' to know the truth about his world. He suddenly realizes that his world is fake, by finding out the truth after he was released from the pod.
In both "Allegory of the Cave" and the "Matrix" the characters realize that the world they have been living in is nothing but illusions and reflections their entire life.
In both publications, human beings live their lives experiencing what for them is reality until some of them are able to see reality and realize that all their lives were based on illusions. The Matrix and Plato's Allegory of the Cave are very similar for both involve men who live unreal lives that are controlled by other beings and who, upon perceiving this, initially reject the truth yet finally manage to accept it and try to present it to other persons.
