La Misma Luna's Believability
In the movie La Misma Luna by filmmaker Patricia Riggen can be seen as sort of a fairy tale to some viewers. However through the gutsiness to travel through the unknown, intelligence of memory, and positive personality of Carlitos makes the story believable.
Even though Carlitos is nine years old in the movie, gutsiness can be found in all ages. In this movie Carlitos makes the choice to cross the border from his hometown in Mexico to Los Angeles in the United States to be with his mother. I found Carlitos gutsiness believable in this situation, being illegal immigration, because it has happened so many times since the start of the United States. The things one will be willing to go through to reach one's goal.
When Carlitos is stuck without an address to find his mother he uses his memory to know the place where his mother would have made the call to talk to him. Back when he was in Mexico and received those calls, Carlitos's mother would tell him descriptively where she was over-and-over again. The location was bound to be engraved in his memory. The fact that Carlitos stumbled upon the location is not impossible, just not likely.
Last, Carlitos's positive personality was key to his success in finding his mother. If he were to be negative, he would have given up quickly or never even started to find his mother. Carlitos kept himself going through some tough situations. When a person keeps such an attitude, they keep on. That is completely normal and believable.
Although the film is sort of a fairy tale, the actions of Carlitos are completely believable.
