Journey to Grandma's House

When I was a little kid, every Tuesday I would get up extra early and go on a walk to Grandma's house for lunch. Since my mom was allergic to hamburger grandma would fix me my favorite meal, sloppy joes and macaroni and cheese. It was always a journey walking to Grandma's house because I never knew what exciting things I would come across or what recent changes Grandma may have done to her house.

My Grandma and I lived about a half mile away from each other and approximately seventy-five percent of that distance was her long, snaky, gravel driveway. She lived at the top of a hill which made the walk very tiresome. In autumn, as soon as the leaves fell off the trees, I could see Grandma's bright pink, wood shake roof from the bottom of the hill. She chose the pink roof because in the winter time Grandma loves to fly and likes to check on her house from an airplanes bird eye view.

As I walked up Grandma's steep, inclined drive, I saw a huge black bear far off in the woods and worst of all, it saw me! The first thing I did is what you're not supposed to do, and that's run. I started running up Grandma's snaky, windy driveway and luckily I had enough of a head start to beat the bear up to Grandma's house. I grabbed the .45 magnum pistol that sat on Grandma's porch and unloaded on the bear.

Grandma's four-foot, white picket fence matched her white, wood shake siding on the house. As I approached the house, panting from the adrenaline rush the bear gave me, the aroma from the lilacs and peonies surrounding the picket fence reminded me that I had made it to Grandma's house and I instantly forget about that exhausting uphill sprint the bear made me do in order to save my life. The siding was still the original wood shake that was put up by my great-great grandfather back in the 1890's. Every year Grandma and I painted the siding and the picket fence white in order to help keep the house looking new.

Grandma's front door was blue and gave me a cool-happy feeling when I stood on her front porch. I would ring the doorbell, and when that cool blue door opened I could smell the sloppy joes and hear the food say "come here and eat me." I walked into Grandma's house and saw her old black shutters sitting on the floor. I asked her, "Grandma, why did you take down your old shutters," and she replied "so what did you think of Granny's new shutters." I didn't know how to respond since I didn't notice the shutters when I walked up the drive. After a long pause, I think Grandma realized I didn't notice her new shutters, so before she could say anything, I darted outside to look at them. The shutters were teal, and I told Grandma that I didn't notice the new shutters because they matched the blue front door so well.
