When giving reflection of the Carnegie's Foundation metaphor of steward of the discipline, one must first understand the roles and skills of a Steward.

"Stewardship encompasses, on the one hand, a set of roles and skills, and, on the other, a set of principles. The former ensure competence, and the latter provide the moral compass. Stewardship establishes the purpose of doctoral education (Golde, 2006, p. 9)."

As a generator of knowledge I must prepare students to create a new world filled with technological advancements. I will build on instructing students in the use of search engines and other online information to generate fortuitous searching in the midst of research. Conservation of knowledge includes the embrace of assisting groups or individuals with adopting or supporting various aspects of technology. In this task I take on the challenge of copying the dizzying pace of technology advancement into the development of learning and self-expression.

As a transformer of knowledge, I will develop ways to expand on natural skills students acquire. Game players can become programmers and puzzle builders can become network administrators. As I move to develop myself into a steward of the discipline I believe my progress throughout the doctoral program in Educational Technology will afford me a mastery level of skills and knowledge to not only become a true scholar practitioner but also the ability to present my research and findings to others in a way that would be useful to them for social advancement and professional development.
