Castle's Family Restaurants would benefit best from a benefits/ payroll HRIS. Most HRIS software does at least some basic form of payroll processing. Payroll begins with tracking the time spent on certain activities, usually as reported by the employee him or herself. This reporting is usually done through some sort of software or web application, though some people track work time on hard copy forms that then have to be scanned or transcribed into the computer system. Payroll systems will also conduct necessary accounting and may even print the actual paychecks. HRIS systems that conduct payroll operations also usually manage benefits information, such as medical coverage and retirement accounts. These tie in closely with payroll but are also tracked alongside other employee information such as salary and paid time off. Having these two benefits taken care of by one HRIS would give Mr. Morgan more time for other activities.
Castle's Family Restaurant is a relatively small operation because of this they will have limited funds to purchase an HRIS. I would be most recommended that they use an application service provider to accomplish their benefits and payroll needs. With an ASP the vendor hosts the software and Castle's will rent access to data, which is stored on the vendors' server. This option is preferred when IT resources and support are limited. Using an ASP will be lower in cost initially; however, Castle's will be committed to pay for the system monthly, and over time it may cost more. Using an ASP will have its benefits and disadvantages. However it will provide room for Castle's to expand different benefits if the so choose. If the wanted later to use a customer relations management system it would be an option and they do not have to worry about paying a high cost for IT personnel. An ASP can help organizations stay current with software trends and upgrades. ASPs are usually bound to upgrade to the latest version of each software
