The sun shone through the tinted window giving a ghostly shadow on the wooden floor. Inside the house was Timmy, the second born in a family of three sitting at the couch, his head was resting on the arm of the couch blocking the constant voice of his mother calling from the kitchen." Life is boring up in the country," he thought loudly as he switched his position trying to see if he could get a signal for his phone. It had been twenty minutes without internet access and he was becoming impatient. On his palm was the new HTC one Smartphone with an aluminum sleek body, a kind of phone that streams favorite content with ease. It had stereo speakers that reshape the Smartphone experience, not mentioning the high-speed processor that enabled him to" chat" with over twenty friends at the same time back at the city.
"Timmy, you need to get off that phone," his mum shouted at him as she went up the stairs to call everyone to the dinner table. She had always thought Timmy was lazy and would not make it in life with the kind of attitude he had. His obsession with his phone was the primary cause of their disagreements. She had tried to take him to the counselors to see if he could change but to her dismay, it seemed that all that fell to deaf years. Timmy on the other hand thought his mother was controlling, how could he live without his phone? How would it feel not being in the social media or "chatting" with his friends? To him life would not make sense, he thought as he walked across the room to see if he could get a better signal. Being a high school student, the older generation to him was boring, and he just could not understand them.
"For how long will this go on Timmy?" his mother asked as he tried to scroll down his phone holding his food in the other hand. The family had gone upcountry for thanks giving dinner. Everybody was enjoying the meal except for Timmy who was restless trying to communicate with his friend Joe, kind of a nerd you would say but Timmy's obsession to his gadget was getting out of hand. If he was not chatting with someone, he was calling. If he was not calling, he was listening to music. If he was not listening to music, he was on the social media. "Eat up your food little man," his grandfather blurted. His grandson's fascination with his phone was still a mystery to him. Timmy always believed he was misunderstood and the idea of being obsessed was overrated. To him, it was just that he "liked" his phone more than others did. He liked how it felt on his hand, how he would spend sleepless nights downloading more software for it, and as it turned out his primary concern was his cell phone. The more people would question him about it, simultaneously in his heart he would grow colder.
