Within this essay i will be looking at a change that i will be implementing in my practice area. I will be exploring the role of clinical leadership and how my role as a leader will impact on the change that i am making. I will relate this to the literature around leadership and how this relates to my practice.

Within my role as ward sister, i would like to change the daily admissions meeting process. Currently the meeting involves, a consultant, ward sister, nurse in charge of the shift, medical secetary, and any clinical nurse specialists that have submitted a referral for their patients. I feel that way of this process does not make it an equal system for all patients, as their are to many people involved in this meeting. My main aims to change the meeting are to, provide equality for all patients and to hold the meeting in a timely fashion so we have more time with the patients.

Transformational leaders are committed to what they are doing , inspire other members of their team with their short and long term vision, which then empowers their team members.

A study by Tsalaskidis et al (2012) looks at the transformational leader and how this is linked to job satisfaction and retention of staff. This was a qualitive study looking at 30 head nurses. The results of the study showed that the nurses that had transformational leadership styles will look at and act on ways to improve their practice and will take change forward, with the involvement of their team members. I feel that this is an important stlye of leadership to have when taking a change forward as i feel that the change will be able to go forward if i have the support of the team.

In appendix 1, i looked at a force field analysis of my change. This process examines the driving forces and the resisting forces. From this i have thought about the ways that i will need to communicate the change that I want to make, with different members of the multi professional team. The force field analysis i feel is a positive tools as by highlighting the resisting forces you can work towards how you
