Question 1: Explain all the 5 types of sampling procedures together with their purposes/objectives.

The five types of sampling procedures are random sampling, systematic sampling, convenience sampling, cluster sampling and referral sampling.

The first type of sampling is random sampling; it is a technique that gives everyone an equal chance to be included as part of a study. It basically give everyone an equal chance and to level the playing field.

Systematic sampling is the second type of sampling procedure. It is partially random, meaning it is randomly selected by for all practical purposes. The purpose of doing systematic sampling is quite obvious in that it is more systematic and organized rather than it being totally random and disorganized.

The following procedure is convenience sampling. This sampling is used for exploratory research and its purpose is to make sampling easier as convenience samples are chosen for their convenience, their ease and economy of reaching subjects and their appropriateness.

Next, we have area or cluster sampling. In this, the items for examples are drawn in stages. The purpose of this technique is to make life easier especially when an area to be studied is large and can be broken down gradually into smaller components. in addition, it is not limited to geographic division.

The last procedure is referral sampling. Its purpose is to reach or sample small or hard-to-reach groups.

Question 2: Describe the roles and contents of a prefatory section of the long, formal report.

The prefatory section of a long formal report may start of with the title fly which contains only the report title and is included mainly for formality reasons. It is also repetitive. The role of the title fly is to tell the reader at a glance what the report does and does not cover.

Secondly, you have the title page which displays the report title but also illustrates information essential to the identification of the report. In doing this, you should include your complete identification and that of the authorizer or recipient of this report. An authorization message can be a prefatory part. Its role is determined by whether the report was authorized in writing.

After that, we have the transmittal message otherwise known as the foreword or preface. The function of this is to convey a personal message of some kind to the reader or in other words; it substitutes a face to face meeting with the reader. Transmittal messages should be positive and are written in first person.

Moving on, the table of contents or list of illustrations is an important part of the prefatory section. It is a report outline in finished form with the page numbers and its function is to help the reader find parts of the report quickly. Lastly, there is the executive summary which is the report in miniature or in more layman terms; a summary of the report. Its role is as the preview to the report and serves as a concise summary to business executives who have no time to read the whole report.

Question 3: Explain 5 tips how you would construct a questionnaire so that the results it provides are both reliable and valid.

To construct a questionnaire so that the results it provides are both reliable and valid the first tip I would give is to avoid leading questions. A leading question is one that would influence the answer. For example, do not write "Wouldn't you rate Quicksilver as the best surf company?" instead write "What is your favorite surf Company?" as it will not lead to any biased answer.

The next tip would be to avoid questions that touch on personal prejudices or pride. Areas like age, income, status, morals and personal habits are all very sensitive issues

that will usually garner incorrect or inaccurate answers. It is best to use indirect ways to inquire about these topics such as using ranges or other questions to determine the truth.
